What I learn from watching Star Trek
Voyager - Homestead; The space shuttle, the Delta Flyer crash lands on an asteroid, where the crew find a group of Talaxians who are being forced out of their home by an alien race of miners.
Neelix, the only Talaxian on board Voyager is deeply affected by this encounter with his own species after many years of isolation. Despite his acceptance by Capt. Janeway's crew, he is alone. However, through his identification with his people's plight , he helps secure a means of survival from the planned devastation of their mineral rich "home" by the mining company. In protecting them he finds himself. He acquires a role within the community and is able to pursue a relationship with a widow and her son.
The episode made me think of how important it is to move on, from what may seem a comfortable existence, but in reality constrains our personal and communal development that serves to anaesthetise our loneliness
