THEOLOGY

For the first ten years of my life, I was raised in the Anglican tradition. My subsequent religious upbringing was within the evangelical and pentecostal traditions of the Assemblies of God. To these denominations I am grateful. They provided a sound spiritual foundation that included baptism in water and the Holy Spirit.

My journey towards a gospel of justice for everyone, led to Metropolitan Community Churches as it strives to combat the various isms and phobias that try to separate us from the love of God. A strength of MCC is it’s theological diversity and it’s openness to different forms of worship.

As a person of African Caribbean descent, I value my cultural heritage and strive to express my faith through respect for my history and through an engagement with it’s contemporary richness.

For the past few years I have been involved in doctoral studies at the University of Birmingham. I was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. The working title of my thesis is; Homophobia and the Black Church; Moving towards a Paradigm of Affirmation. During this academic year, I will complete my studies and continue to develop my full time ministry as a practical theologian and as a part time, self-funded minister of black people’s ministry in MCC.
